Grabe, ang ganda! was the common comment I overheard on our way out of the cinema house. And though that comment was not coming from me (though I usually say it because almost everything in life, or related thereto is), I couldn’t have had better words for the film myself. Grabe, ang ganda!
It was wonderful and all the big technical words film critics use to describe a beautiful film. It was storytelling in the most entertaining, vivid, and enamoring of ways. Just imagine gathering all the great indie film actors to take part in a story that could happen only in 1950’s Tondo. The story was alive, and the scenes thick, like an oil painting with the paint still dripping.
Just watch it. It is not typical (of the movies I have seen), not formulaic.
