China Town’s Best

China Town’s Best prides itself as the buffet specialist, well it should not, at least not anymore. I remember eating here when I was much younger and being so happy about the endless choices and how everything tasted great. I was longing for its shrimp salad and famous yang chow with succulent seafood and spicy chorizo. The ambiance then was not spectacular (which is typical of Banawe restaurants), but to compensate, not so many would be disappointed with the food.

This time, however, I was sorely disappointed. They have renovated the place, which now looks quite similar to mall buffet restaurants, but the food… it was a tragedy. It was like my childhood hero had been revealed to be a fraud.

The choices were plenty, too many that we did not bother trying everything. Despite the spread, nothing was memorable. Nothing was worth a second try. It seemed to me that every dish was but second-rate of what it represented to be. Too bad because the restaurant now is second-rate of its former self.

Anyhow, I guess it is time to change favorites.
